Day Trip to Hocking Hills

We do not always have multiple days at a time to get away and see the places we want to see. Sometimes our vacation plans are restricted to just a day. If you have the option to see Hocking Hills in a single day, do not hesitate. The area features plenty to see and do to make the most of your limited time here in the area. If you have heard of Hocking Hills, you must know it is an outdoor enthusiast’s playground with plenty of natural areas to explore. Take a look at how you can plan the perfect day trip to Hocking Hills:

Hocking Hills State Park

When planning your day trip to Hocking Hills, you will probably have realized that Hocking Hills State Park is the biggest attraction in the area. This is not your average state park and is instead a massive outdoor trailhead that features plenty of areas to explore. Visitors are able to explore over 2,300 acres of wonderful terrain here in the forest. Hocking Hills State Park is divided into seven different areas for you to explore. The areas that can be explored include Ash Cave, Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls, Conkle’s Hollow, Whispering Cave, Cantwell Cliffs, and Rock House. Each trail is one way, so you will not find any traffic heading back into your direction. Instead, each trail has a starting and ending point, making it easy to navigate.

Visitors who are staying only for the day will want to make sure to start as early as possible. Hocking Hills State Park is busy during the warmer seasons of the year. The park is open every day from sun up to sun down, allowing you to start as soon as there is daylight. Hitting the trail early is recommended, especially for the summer, so you can enjoy some cooler temperatures. You will not have enough time to explore every trail in the area during a single day unless you are quite the hiker. More casual hikers can easily get in a few miles of beautiful scenery. This includes flowing waterfalls, cascading rivers or streams, and sandstone gorges. Recess caverns and hollowed areas are great to explore and see something new. Hocking Hills State Park is a place where you can easily spend the majority of your day in Hocking Hills.

Local Lakes

Outdoor enthusiasts may also want to explore the local watering holes to try their hand at an hour or two of fishing. Hocking Hills features Lake Logan, where fishing is easily the most popular activity. The lake has plenty of fish to reel in, include trout. Fishing licenses are required and can be purchased at places such as Adventure Pro Store. If you want to rent a boat for a few hours, Lake Logan Marina is where you want to go. Rose Lake is another great spot that is located inside Hocking Hills State Park near Old Man’s Cave. This lake is where you want to go for a quiet moment by the water and to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Swimming is not allowed at Rose Lake, but fishing is highly encouraged.

Hocking Hills Winery

After you are done exploring the outdoor areas of Hocking Hills, you can relax with a glass of wine. Hocking Hills is home to Hocking Hills Winery that uses locally foraged grapes to produce some unique wine. It offers a delicate flavor profile found in each of their wines. Enjoy a variety of reds, whites, and rose wines during your visit to the tasting room. Their tasting flights are a great way to try a little bit of everything before you decide on a full glass to order. You can also purchase a few bottles of your favorite vintage to take back home with you too.
