Conkle’s Hollow
Hocking Hills State Park features several different gorges that have formed in the ground providing deep trails to explore. The park offers 7 major hiking trails that are all connected to the main park. One of the more popular gorges include Conkle’s Hollow that offers a paved path that leads among many different cliffs and rock formations. A small steam can be seen down below that trails along beside you. The Lower and Upper Trails are several miles long and the Upper Trail ends at a majestic waterfall. The 100-foot cliff drops are absolutely gorgeous to see in person but make sure to watch your step when you get close to the edge. The Lower Trail is paved and allows for wheelchair access so everyone can participate in the views. This trail takes around an hour to complete from start to finish. While some parts of Hocking Hills State Park are open to leashed dogs, Conkle’s Hollow prohibits any pets or unfit hikers from the trails.
Cedar Falls
Another exciting spots deep in the Hocking Hills State Park is Cedar Falls. This local trail is just a half mile long and is easy to navigate. The trail to Ash Cave also features a paved path that is wheelchair accessible similar to other parts of Hocking Hills State Park. While the path to the rim is not accessible by wheelchair it does reward hikers with sweeping views of the park all around you. The trail to Ash Cave should take most hikers around 40 minutes to complete and is dog friendly for leashed animals. . Regardless of where you are at around Ash Cave do not forget to take a peek in the deep caverns themselves!
Cantwell Cliffs
Perhaps one of the more sought-after sights around Hocking Hills is found deep within Hocking County at Cantwell Cliffs. This remote scenic area can be difficult to reach but more than makes up for it with terrific views. You will be surrounded by the beautiful forest scenery and rocky cliffs that the area is known for. Visitors can be a look at “Fat Woman’s Squeeze,” a narrow passage that has eroded over the years leaving this narrow passageway. Cantwell Cliffs features two loops that make up for two miles of trail. While it may not sound like a significant length each loop will take hikers approximately 60 to 80 minutes to complete due to the rugged terrain. These loops are also the most remote in the entire park so make sure you arrive prepared before you take on the trails. The loops are typically the least busy of all of Hocking Hills State Park so enjoy the peace and serenity around you on the trail.
Rock House
Visit the only “real” cave in Hocking Hills State Park over at Rock House. This corridor of sandstone cliffs features 25-foot ceilings and is approximately 200 feet long. It gets its name from the appearance of “windows” deep within the rocks making the cave appear as a house. Visitors can access the path from two entry points, but both will take you up to the shelter house at the top of the hill. The trail to Rock House is only a ¼ mile in length, making it the shortest trail found at Hocking Hills State Park. This local cave is a must see when visiting Hocking Hills!
